What to put in your job brief

The more specific your brief, the less you have to fix afterwards. Try to cover:

• What the work actually is, trade by trade, and how much of it there is.
• Where it is — site address, indoors or outdoors, occupied or empty.
• How you get to the work: scaffold, tower, MEWP, ladders, excavation.
• Plant, tools and equipment being used.
• How many operatives, their trades, and who supervises.
• Dates, shift pattern and any out-of-hours or weather constraints.
• Client, principal contractor and any permits required.
• Anything unusual: live services, public interface, asbestos information, traffic.

Example of a useful brief

"Replacing 40 linear metres of guttering and three fascia sections on a two-storey occupied office in Nottingham. Access from an independent scaffold erected by others with handover certificate. Two operatives plus a working supervisor, Monday to Thursday, week commencing 13 October. Client: Midland Estates. Pedestrian route below needs keeping open, so exclusion zone and banksman required when loading out. Hand tools and cordless drills only, no hot works."

What the AI drafts for you

• The project and company details it can pick out of your brief or documents.
• A description of works and a suggested sequence of works.
• A starting selection of activities from the QR Safety hazard library, with their approved controls and risk ratings unchanged.
• Suggested PPE, and any COSHH substances it spotted in your brief or documents.
• Emergency details it can infer, such as the nearest A&E from the site address.

What you must review and complete

• Every hazard and control line — add what is missing and remove what does not apply.
• The sequence of works, so it matches how your team will really work.
• PPE, COSHH entries, manual handling assessments and attached data sheets.
• Permits, supervision, first aid and emergency arrangements.
• Names, dates and site-specific details.

The draft is a starting point. It does not establish compliance, approve the work, or replace competent judgement. Completed RAMS must be reviewed, adapted and approved by a competent person before use.

Editing and exporting the result

The draft opens straight in the normal builder, so every step is editable in exactly the same way as a RAMS you build by hand.
